Friday 18th October is DLD Awareness Day.
DLD stands for Developmental Language Disorder - the fact I have to say this shows why the awareness day is needed. DLD is a lifelong difficulty understanding and using language, and is thought to affect 1 in 14 people. Yet most people have never heard of it.
Afasic supports the families of children and young people with speech and language needs, but has a special focus on DLD.
Amelia has DLD and is a Young Ambassador for Afasic. She is participating in Afasic’s Walking for DLD event on 13th October (along with her Mum) to raise vital funds for Afasic, and to help raise awareness of DLD ahead of DLD Awareness Day. She will be walking an 8km route, taking in 6 of the London bridges.
