We’re thrilled that in our 30th anniversary, Godwyns Onwuchekwa has been inspired to raise money for the Alfred Fagon Award with a sponsored bike ride. He'll be cycling over two days, 11th – 12th July.
Godwyns says, “I am cycling from Nottingham to Bristol in support of the Alfred Fagon Award, which champions Black British playwrights and storytellers.
This ride honours Alfred Fagon, a Jamaican-born playwright, poet, and actor who made Britain his home. His life reflects how migration, service, and creativity contribute to shared cultural life, shaping a Britain that is richer through the people who build their lives here. The Award in his name continues that legacy by supporting new writing talent today.
I first learned about the Alfred Fagon Award last year after being invited to the ceremony by James St. Ville, Chair of the Board of Trustees. I was deeply moved by the organisation's commitment to nurturing new voices and creating opportunities for Black British playwrights and storytellers.
If Alfred Fagon's journey inspires you as it inspires me, please consider making a donation and helping the Award continue its vital work for future generations.”
