Story

London - Edinburgh Ride For Cleo

Cleo was born with Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, Talipes and a collection of associated diagnoses. Within 24 hours of being born she had major surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) to close the opening in her spine. Later Cleo underwent further surgery to put in place a shunt to drain excess fluid from her brain into her stomach.

Cleo uses splints, straps and a wheelchair to get around. Despite this she is a very happy 4-year-old, and tries her best to do all that a 4-year-old wants to do.

As Cleo grows, she will have greater challenges to her mobility. There will be a requirement for many adaptations to be made to their home. Cleo will be able to obtain a local government grant to cover some of the cost for this, but this will fall short by a considerable sum.

To help raise some money for these adaptions, and also to raise money for GOSH, can you please help by supporting Steve and Sam McCallion, and myself on our Charity Bike Rid. We are cycling from London to Edinburgh in 6 days, averaging over 80 miles per day.

We are very grateful to the Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys for supporting our efforts, and please do tick the gift aid box when making your donation.

We thank you for your support.

Alan Hurst.

And thank you from Cleo x
