About

Welcome! On Saturday 11 February 2023, 48 poets are taking part in a Poem-A-Thon (a non-stop relay of poets) to raise money for a couple of food banks in Walthamstow - Eat or Heat and Rukhsana Khan Foundation. We're hoping to give them a big financial boost of £10,000 as more and more households depend on them.

There are two ways you can help:

SPONSOR one or more of our poets [or select the General fundraising page] - anything you give will go towards our team target of £10,000. Your donation will help make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

Come along and support the poets! Each poet will be reading for 8-10 minutes between 1pm and 9pm Saturday and you can pop in and out as you please. Entry is £5 - reserve your tickets at https://PoemAThon.eventbrite.co.uk or pay on the door. Have a go on the tombola and win a prize!

Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub, 53-55 High Street, Walthamstow, E17 4SA. https://www.yeolderoseandcrowntheatrepub.co.uk For line-up details, keep checking https://twitter.com/ForestPoets #poemathon or https://facebook.com/ForestPoets

Supporting

Eat or Heat

We are an organisation that endeavours to help feed people in these difficult times.

As the economic situation has deteriorated, we have seen more families that say they can either heat and light the house, but can't feed the family too.

LIFE IN THIS COUNTRY SHOULD NOT BE EAT OR HEAT, SO HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We need cans, packets, cartons, crates of food. Not fresh food as we don't have anywhere to store it. But long life food will be great.

Thank you for your support.

Rukhsana Khan Foundation

In late 2012, Jahangir Khan’s mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At this same time, Jahangir was struck by reports that more people were struggling to put food on the table for their families.

His mother had always preached that if good comes to you, you should reach out and share your success with others. In her memory, he launched the Rukhsana Khan Foundation.

The mission of the charity is to help local families access food. We launched Walthamstow’s first Food Bank in 2013.

Future plans for the charity include summer lunch clubs for local children and breakfast clubs for the elderly and vulnerable.
