Soho Parish Primary School in the heart of London is a small school that has always relied on its generous community for support.

Soho Parish Primary PTA (Parent Teachers Association) is a registered charity that raises funds to support the school. These unrestricted funds are used by the school to enrich the experience of pupils at the school by enabling all kinds of activities, such as special trips, artist visits or the school’s Arts Week. 

This is only possible because the school’s wider community makes generous donations via the PTA, either through one-off donations or regular Direct Debits. As a registered charity, the PTA can increase the value of donations by 25% via the government’s Gift Aid scheme.

Soho Parish Primary School, which dates back to the 17th century and is now the last remaining school in Soho, is unique. Its distinctive character and ethos reflect the spirit of Soho itself: it embraces individuality within a diverse community.

The school is truly embedded in Soho, but it has no catchment area and also welcomes children from across London, whose families are warmly received into the Soho community. 

Soho Parish Primary is non-selective and, unlike every other school in its area, does not prioritise children of particular faiths. Its pupils represent a wide range of nationalities and socioeconomic backgrounds. Soho’s ethos is reflected in its distinctive school policies: there is no uniform and the children know teachers by their first names. 

The school is unusual in that it emphasises creativity and the expressive arts within its curriculum. This arts focus is extended through activities such as artist residencies and enriching links with local world-class cultural organisations, from Ronnie Scott’s jazz club and Frith Street Gallery to the National Portrait Gallery. The school’s community activities include the Soho Lights scheme, in which the district’s Christmas lights are designed by pupils, and the annual Soho Food Feast, which is backed by dozens of local restaurants. 

As of 2026, Soho Parish is the only state primary school in central London to hold the highest Platinum Award from Arts Council England’s flagship national Artsmark scheme – a remarkable achievement.
