SideKick Dance

About

SideKick Dance provide high quality dance experiences for people with disabilities. There are three groups of participants, one age 11-18 and the two age 19+, and are based at curve Theatre in Leicester, with a waiting list for more classes. Sidekick also have a primary aged session called the SideKick Stars! And they do outreach sessions in SEN schools. Research states that dance can play an integral role in developing physical and emotional capabilities of people with disabilities and can have a positive effect on mobility of the body, increases in strength, coordination, flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, and it stimulates the mind-body connection, improving spatial awareness and social skills (Inal, 2014). The groups meet every week throughout the academic year to take part in dance class, create original work and to perform.
Sidekick also run an annual inclusive dance festival and they continue to run an annual performance for the special schools of Leicester/shire. To continue with this great work, SideKick desperately need funding. For more information please visit www.sidekickdance.co.uk
