Thank you for making a donation to SGR via the Martin Ryle Trust.
Here are just a few highlights of our recent work:
- We’ve had our best ever year for media coverage, thanks particularly to our well-timed reports on the climate impacts of the FIFA World Cup and the Winter Olympics.
- Our work on military carbon emissions continues to be very influential. This year we published a new in-depth study on the military climate strategies of 26 nations, which revealed plenty of greenwash, but little progress on reducing emissions.
- We hosted a successful online conference exploring how we can challenge disinformation, and organised a webinar on the militarisation of science education.
- We ran six People’s Emergency Briefings and Carbon Conversations for groups in Lancashire, and our work on the ‘Closing Loops’ project has contributed to North Lancashire winning a prestigious Sustainable Food Places Gold award.
There is a lot more that we are planning to do in 2027, including:
- Video interviews on ethical careers in science and technology, especially avoiding military involvement;
- A report on the environmental costs of military AI;
- Further reports on the carbon footprints of snow sports and football, especially the role of high carbon sponsorship;
- Continuing to speak out on other key issues, such as nuclear weapons, climate risks, rearmament, and sustainable energy.
