About

Thank you for making a donation to SGR via the Martin Ryle Trust.

Here are just a few highlights of our recent work:

  • Published three high-profile reports on the carbon footprint of football;
  • Began new work with schools and universities on challenging the militarisation of science education;
  • Published a review of recent studies showing that rising military spending is rapidly increasing carbon emissions;
  • Updated our popular resource on 'Nuclear Weapons: A Beginner’s Guide to the threats';
  • Organised an online conference about how the ‘polluter elite’ and big tech corporations are harming our climate and society;
  • Our website received over 107,000 page-views in the past year, and our work was covered by many media outlets.

There is a lot more that we are planning to do in 2026, including:

  • Publishing new reports on military greenwash, including misreporting of carbon emissions and misleading climate targets;
  • Expanding our campaign work challenging military influence on science and technology education and careers;
  • Publishing new reports on the carbon footprint of winter sports, including the Winter Olympics, in particular highlighting the role of high carbon sponsorship;
  • Continuing to speak out on urgent threats from the misuse of science and technology, and to campaign for solutions with the greatest potential to support a transition to peaceful, just, and sustainable societies.

The Martin Ryle Trust

The MRT is a charity that funds research and education on any aspects of reducing violence between states. This includes indirect and long-term steps, such as promoting justice, and more direct steps such as supporting research and education about high levels of militarisation. The Trust primarily supports the charitable work of Scientists for Global Responsibility, a membership organisation promoting responsible science and technology.
