Donate to Severn, our historic yacht built in Arnside in 1912.

Donations help us pay the boat's running cost and build up a reserve for future maintenance. The estimated cost of maintaining Severn a year is £2000 a year, this includes berthing fees, insurance, fuel and maintenance costs. We can not meet these costs by membership and sailing fees are alone.

Severn was built by Crossfields in Arnside in 1912 as one of 10 Rivers Class Yachts for the Royal Mersey Yacht Club. Crossfields were leading builders of yachts and Morecambe Bay Prawners from the 1840s to 1940s. Severn was restored between 2022 and 2026 supported by grants from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and other funders.

As a charity we can claim gift aid on your donations increasing its value by £25. So please gift aid your donations.

Friends of Severn

Friends of Severn have been set up to help look after Severn, a yacht built in Arnside in 1912. Severn is one of 10 Rivers Class yachts built by Crossfields of Arnside in the run up to World War One for the Royal Mersey Yacht Club. She was brought by Arnside Sailing Club in 2018 with the help of a Heritage Lottery grant to have an example of a Crossfields boat in the village. Crossfields of Arnside were leading builders of yachts and Morecambe Bay Prawners active from 1840s to 1940s. Amongst the boats they built were Arthur Ransome's Swallow and Coch-y-bonddhu.
