Following the devastating flooding in Nepal, KASIN has made contact with our friends and the projects in the Kathmandu Valley, Kurintar and Gangajamuna. All are safe and the projects themselves remain unaffected.
However, there is great trauma for all in Nepal and many of our colleagues have loved ones and friends missing. In Gangajamuna, we are aware of at least 15 families with missing relatives who were working as porters and guides in the affected regions. We hope and pray for all who wait so anxiously and for those who are currently unaccounted for.
KASIN's response to the disaster is not going to be immediate as we do not have the expertise or resources currently required - those of search and rescue technicians and immediate shelter and food/medical aid. However, we are looking to raise money to be deployed in the coming months once the needs of the communities are known. This could be supporting families to help children remain in school, but we will be guided by our Nepalese contacts who will know what is required.
To help us build some funds to be deployed we are launching a special appeal for longer term support of the communities with whom we work currently to enable us to be responsive to needs as they are identified. If you would like to donate to this special fund, please donate here.
In the meantime, all our thoughts remain with the communities, friends and colleagues affected.
