Today I have finally hit double figures in my training run, I was very honoured to be joined by my awesome sister Sarah. I am normally quite an anti social runner but it was really lovely to have some company and it was good to have a catch up. She is also running the Brighton Marathon with me so where possible we can train together, its also nice to have someone to talk 'marathon' with as its extremely dull for everyone else how many miles you have run each week. My amazing husband has also signed up so we are well into the logistics of two people training for a marathon as well as childcare and working and general life-its pretty busy in our house at the moment!

10 miles felt long but good, next week is 12 miles as I now have to jump two miles a week to hit my target of 20 miles three weeks before (then I have three weeks of tapering getting ready for marathon day).

For more regular updates please do pop along to my blog which is on the My Sisters' House website https://www.mysistershouse.info/blog-posts.

Hello! I am Jo and in a few short weeks I will be running the 2023 Brighton Marathon (that's 26.2 miles, please do not forget the .2!). I am running to raise money for the amazing charity that I have worked for for the past 2 years, My Sisters' House (confusingly, if you know me, not my ACTUAL sisters' house!) who are a Women's Centre based in Bognor and Chichester. I see every day the amazing work that my colleagues do supporting women who are survivors of domestic abuse as well as women who are in difficulty or crisis. I am so proud to be raising money for this charity and am doing it for all the women that we have supported as well as my amazing colleagues and our wonderful volunteers.

A few things about me, although I have run a marathon before, it was ten years ago, around the time of a big birthday. Since then I have had two children and celebrated another big birthday, eating a LOT of cake in between. Also, importantly for this adventure, last February I did a fantastic job of severing my achilles tendon..... I am fully healed and whilst I won't go so far as to say my consultant RECOMMENDED running a marathon I quickly ran it (!!) past him and he didn't say No. In so many words anyway.

So with all this in mind I am aiming to smash my 2013 time (well marginally beat it if I can).

I am already well into training and I will be sharing updates on this page as well as via MSH social media so please do keep an eye out.

I hope you are here because you would like to sponsor me, thank you so much. Training for and running a marathon is horrible (I had forgotten how horrible!). Knowing that I am raising money for such an amazing cause that makes a real difference to women's lives is the thing that will keep me putting on my trainers on and heading out into the wind/rain/sleet/snow/hail (insert awful running weather here) time after time and running mile after mile even when it really hurts and my toe-nails are falling off (you're very welcome!)

Love

Jo x

Supporting

My Sisters' House Women's Centre

Embedded in the Bognor Regis community, My Sisters' House Women's Centre works across the coastal area of West Sussex. We provide a range of support to women from all backgrounds facing all kinds of issues, where their strengths are recognised, their difficulties acknowledged, and where they can achieve positive change they are proud of. We do this in a women-centred, trauma-informed way which treats each woman as an individual. We offer the support of specialist staff with knowledge and experience in the fields of domestic abuse, employment support and training, and finance. We help by providing one-to-one keyworking, peer groups, courses in building confidence and skills, and dealing with anxiety, and we offer counselling to those who need it. We run a course for mothers and children to help them recognise and overcome the lasting effects of domestic abuse. We give out foodbank vouchers, clothing vouchers and bags of toiletries.

£1,836.87 raised by 56 supporters
