Hope Magherafelt exists to bring hope to families and individuals within our community who find themselves for various reasons, in circumstances beyond their control. We aim to achieve this through the following projects:
Hope Hub - Hope Magherafelt is more than a foodbank charity and we wanted to provide a dignified space for anyone in the community. Open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-2pm, we operate as an honesty box café, with our amazing volunteers available to offer a non-judgemental listening ear. People who work locally can come and eat their pack lunch while availing of a warm cup of tea or coffee, friends can come together and chat over coffee/tea and we have some puzzles and books people can use also.
Foodbank - We provide 3 days worth of emergency food supplies to families who cannot financially afford to buy their own food due to some underlying crisis. We help identify the families needs and offer appropriate support or signposting to help deal with the cause of the crisis they find themselves in. This runs during our Hub days.
Cook it! - A nutrition programme developed to support people who want to enhance their cooking skills and who are interested in healthier eating, particularly where cost is a consideration. The programme promotes locally sourced, seasonal produce, which is much cheaper to buy than processed and imported foods. This course usually runs over a 6-week period, spending time cooking food from scratch and encouraging families to plan, budget, shop and cook together.
CAP (Christians Against Poverty) - A free debt counselling service across Mid Ulster, provided by a qualified CAP debt coach and CAP befriender, within the safety of your own home. CAP help find a suitable way to deal with their debt and work alongside them until they become debt free.
