About

Hope Magherafelt exists to bring hope to families and individuals within our community who find themselves for various reasons, in circumstances beyond their control.  We aim to achieve this through the following projects:

Hope Hub - Hope Magherafelt is more than a foodbank charity and we wanted to provide a dignified space for anyone in the community. Open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-2pm, we operate as an honesty box café, with our amazing volunteers available to offer a non-judgemental listening ear. People who work locally can come and eat their pack lunch while availing of a warm cup of tea or coffee, friends can come together and chat over coffee/tea and we have some puzzles and books people can use also.

Foodbank - We provide 3 days worth of emergency food supplies to families who cannot financially afford to buy their own food due to some underlying crisis. We help identify the families needs and offer appropriate support or signposting to help deal with the cause of the crisis they find themselves in. This runs during our Hub days.

Cook it! - A nutrition programme developed to support people who want to enhance their cooking skills and who are interested in healthier eating, particularly where cost is a consideration. The programme promotes locally sourced, seasonal produce, which is much cheaper to buy than processed and imported foods. This course usually runs over a 6-week period, spending time cooking food from scratch and encouraging families to plan, budget, shop and cook together.

CAP (Christians Against Poverty) - A free debt counselling service across Mid Ulster, provided by a qualified CAP debt coach and CAP befriender, within the safety of your own home.  CAP help find a suitable way to deal with their debt and work alongside them until they become debt free.

Hope Magherafelt Christmas Appeal 2025 - Hope Magherafelt

"The hamper, full of Christmas treats and pj's were a lifeline for our family" - said one family blessed last year by Hope Christmas Appeal!

Similar to previous years, we are partnering with various local referral agencies such as Social Services, Health Visitors, Mental Health Teams, employment projects and other local charities to give out Christmas Hampers and Christmas Pj's.  Christmas hampers will include - Shloer, Mince Pies, Sponge puddings, Shortbread, Crisps, Chocolates, Hot Chocolate & Marshmallows & Festive Biscuits. Included will be a Christmas card designed by children from Kilronan School and a handmade Christmas tree decoration.  We will also be providing families with Christmas pj's for the whole family as an extra treat, something that our referral agencies have said meant so much, on previous years.

We are aiming to support approx 350 individuals/families this Christmas.

Your donation will go towards the purchase of these items, transportation costs and overheads to make Hope Christmas project 2025 as special as we can for families this Christmas.  Thank you, in advance for all your support - it is greatly appreciated by all!
