Copeland Age and Advice Service

Copeland Age and Advice Service (CAAS) launched in October 2019 and is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise in West Cumbria that provides information, advice, and support to individuals over the age of fifty-five in relation to financial matters, housing issues and enabling people to continue to live safely and independently in their own homes, or wherever they choose in the Copeland area. CAAS was set up following the closure of the Place Based Prevention Service in April 2019, previously run by Age UK West Cumbria. The closure of this service left a large gap in service provision which had a huge impact on clients, their families, NHS, Social Care and other third sector organisations who were already under great strain. With an ever-increasing ageing population combined with the reduction in local budgets, The CAAS team provide early intervention support to individuals who, if left unsupported would more likely need to rely on Social Care and NHS services in the future. Our main aim is to prevent the likelihood of individuals needing to access statutory support and reduce inequalities by ensuring that everyone can support themselves and manage financially, understand, and access their housing options and access support to enable them to live independently.
