About

Food in Community supply the tastiest, most nutritious, sustainably produced food to people who are in crisis or are vulnerable. Our volunteers collect surplus and donated food from local farmer's fields, producers and wholesalers, then in collaboration with local charities and councils, we make and deliver fresh food boxes, recipe boxes and easy eating boxes for people who are too frail to cook. We also supply food banks with fresh produce across South Hams, Teignbridge and Torbay. After two weeks of lockdown, our volunteers had already distributed more than 10,000 meals worth of quality food to doorsteps and food banks across the region. Outside of pandemic times, we run two community pay what you feel lunch cafes and a variety of workshops around how to reduce food waste and make the most of the food you buy. These are on hold due to the coronavirus, and are our main source of trading income, hence this fundraiser, to keep our van on the road, our insurance paid, and keep that good food flowing from fields and kitchens into the homes of the most vulnerable. We are a member of the Independent Food Aid Network, working to end food insecurity and filling the gap until that happens by providing emergency food in the meantime.
