The PTA exists to support the life and work of the School and is open to all members of the school community.

The Association provides invaluable support to the school through organising many social and fundraising events involving parents and the wider local community. Money raised provides extra facilities, equipment and experiences for the pupils.

The group governed by an elected committee, holds regular meetings in school to identify long and short-term projects for its fundraising.

The school playpark is an important part of the daily life of Killowen pupils. The playpark requires extensive repairs to ensure that the whole school can continue to use the facility. The playpark provides additional opportunities for physical exercise throughout the day. We have more than 400 pupils who use the playpark each week. The 14 classes are given specific days to use the playpark which ensures that all classes get a few visits. This is a real cause for excitement amongst the pupils who always look forward to their playpark days.

There is great importance to having this facility. A playpark provides an opportunity for socialising and community building away from the formalities of the classroom. It is also a stepping stone in helping children grow into healthy young adults through building social skills and strengthening of various muscle groups. Playtime promotes imagination and creativity with opportunities to explore – the different elements of our playpark support this. Our equipment also enables children to develop motor skills and cognitive abilities. Regular outdoor play also promotes sensory development which is especially important for those children whole struggle in the classroom setting.
