The Christmas Dinner is an annual event, founded by poet Lemn Sissay MBE, bringing communities together provide a Christmas Day for care leavers, aged between 18 and 25. Since 2014, The Hackney Christmas Dinner celebrates with 50 young people from across East London.
For many young people leaving care, this may be their first Christmas living independently - and alone. These young people have faced many challenges in life, having grown up in the care system. We want our guests to know that someone cares for them. We need your help to give them a day they will never forget.
This year, Christmas will be doubly hard for many young people with care experience. Our aim is to reach as many young people as possible, safely, so we are taking Hackney Christmas Dinner online! We already have a team working on a magical box of delights, which we will deliver to care leavers across East London on Christmas Day. We also hope to provide every individual with a device, and data package, to help them connect with each other virtually.
We will overcome the challenges - and we need your help to do it!
Please donate.
Thank you,
The Hackney Christmas Dinner team
