Two Friends is a striking black-and-white photograph capturing a quiet moment between two elephants roaming across the South African landscape.

The image was taken by the photographer during a volunteer trip to South Africa, where they spent time working with elephants at the African Elephant Research Unit. The elephants live within a protected landscape where they are free to roam, cared for by a dedicated team of rangers and staff committed to their welfare.

The herd includes elephants rescued from circumstances including neglect, abuse, wildlife trafficking and exploitation for entertainment. While carefully managed tourist feeding is permitted, the organisation does not allow touching, riding or other forms of direct interaction with the elephants.

These are two of the elephants the photographer had the privilege of working alongside during their stay. Two Friends captures them simply as they were: together, unrestrained and moving through the landscape.
