Rahwa, a talented student at the Nicolas Robinson School in Mekelle, has created this beautiful artwork. It depicts a Nicolas Robinson School Student, happy to be back at school and holding doves, signifying the peace that must be sustained to enable her to complete her education. The artwork is oil on canvas and the size is approx. 60 x 90 cm.

Rahwa is just starting her final year at the Nicolas Robinson School. She is a talented artist and has drawn many beautiful portraits, especially of women, showing their suffering during the recent war in Tigray. This painting has a more positive feel. Rahwa is not only a talented artist, she is a top student in maths and physics and her ambition is to study aerospace engineering, preferably at an international university with a full scholarship.

Rahwa has also used her paintings to increase awareness about women's issues especially to increase awareness of the sexual violence that more than 100,000 women experienced during the war.

Rainbows4children (R4C) was set up in memory of Nicolas Robinson (son of the founder) providing education for disadvantaged children in Ethiopia. 100% of donations go directly to the educational projects. All administration work is carried out by unpaid volunteers. R4C supports children of parents with disabilities, resulting from war injuries or landmines. Local partner: the Tigray Disabled Veterans Association (TDVA), a self-help organisation.

The Nicolas Robinson School in Mekelle: Kindergarten (opened 2005): • > 240 children. • Facilities: classrooms, staff room, play area, eating room, small library.

Primary School (opened 2007): • > 640 children, grades 1-8. • Facilities: classrooms, staff room, science lab, library, music room, sports field.

Secondary School (opened 2012): • 12 classrooms for >360 students, grades 9-12. • Facilities: chemistry, physics, biology, IT labs, staff building, library, sports facilities. Achievements: • 100% success rate in Ethiopian regional exams (grade 8) and 98% national exams (grade 12). • Graduates proceed to university or vocational training. • Recognised as the best quality school in the Tigray region based on facilities and management. • Students awarded scholarships to study in the US, African Leadership Academy, United World College, Hong Kong UST, USIA - Africa, Nairobi, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong PolyU.

Nicolas College:  Vocational training for better career options. • On the Nicolas Robinson School campus. • Four well-equipped workshops. Training programmes: Hospitality industry: • Six-month courses in food preparation and table-serving skills. • > 100 students trained by2025. Computer Skills: • Courses in computer skills multi-level. • Designed to improve work efficiency & support further education. Entrepreneurship training: • Short intensive courses.

Oil painting - Nicolas school student loves peace

This oil on canvas painting, measuring approx 60cm x75cm, was created by Rahwa, a grade 11 student. Rahwa is a celebrated local talent, she has created many beautiful drawings to depict the suffering of the Tigray people and her belief in hope for the future through peace.

She has created this painting for us to auction, to raise funds for her school, the Nicolas Robinson School.
