David's Spinnaker Tower Abseil

Story

On Sunday 19th April David Wallder is abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth to raise funds to complete the mid-life refit of our sail training yacht Thermopylae Clipper.  In the middle of the refit a crack was discovered at the top of the mast and this has required us to have a brand new mast made for us at great cost.  Please give what you can to enable the Discovery Sailing Project to deliver character building sail training voyages for the next generation of Scouts.

David is an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and Chief Instructor for the Project. Over many years he has witnessed the transformative changes sail training can bring to young people's lives. It helps them to grown in confidence and challenges their physical and leadership skills though the adventure provided by the voyages.  He is undertaking this abseil to ensure the Project can continue to provide fantastic experiences to young people for years to come. #SkillsForLife

Thermopylae Clipper mid-life refit - Discovery Sailing Project

The Discovery Sailing Project delivers offshore sailing experiences for young people. We give Scouts, and other youth organisations the opportunity to develop through sail training. We are part of the Scouts, forming the offshore Sailing section of the Dockland Scout Project and are guided by the Scouts' values and method.

The Project is a registered charity (No. 267884) and was established in 1971.   It is a member of ASTO and is inspected by the RYA as a recognised training centre.
