The situation in Gaza
Gaza is facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Years of bombardment, displacement and the destruction of essential infrastructure have left civilians struggling to access food, clean water, shelter and medical care.
In September 2025, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry concluded that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Israel rejects this finding.
The consequences for Gaza's civilian population have been devastating.
The destruction of healthcare infrastructure has left many people unable to access essential treatment. For those recovering from serious injuries, physiotherapy and rehabilitation remain particularly difficult to obtain.
Our new rehabilitation programme
Edinburgh Direct Aid International (EDAI) has approved a new rehabilitation programme in Gaza City, building on the medical work our supporters have already helped fund.
Working with trusted local partners, the project will establish a tented clinic providing physiotherapy and rehabilitation for people injured in the war, as well as adults and children with restricted mobility.
The programme will provide:
A rehabilitation clinic offering physiotherapy and essential treatment.
Home visits for patients unable to reach the clinic.
Support for families and carers, helping them provide ongoing care at home.
Training for physiotherapy students, strengthening local rehabilitation services for the future.
The aim is to help each person regain as much mobility and independence as possible, while giving families the skills and support needed to continue their care.
The project has been approved by EDAI and is ready to move into implementation in Gaza City.
Our previous medical work in Gaza
This new programme builds on the medical support our donors have already helped provide.
