This year I will be walking the mighty stride in the Glasgow kiltwalk and will be raising money for Ayrshire Baby Loss.
Early training for the kiltwalk along with lots of support from my husband, family and friends have been crucial to getting me to a place where I've felt able to rejoin the real world after a late miscarriage took away our future with our little boy. We found out at our 12 week scan that Alexander would most likely have a diagnosis of a chromosomal abnormality which was later found to be Patau's syndrome, an additional copy of chromosome 13 which effects approximately 1 in 4000 pregnancies in the UK. We went on to lose Alexander early in our second trimester.
We were incredibly well looked after throughout this short journey by our amazing medical team and then by the bereavement midwives in Ayrshire Maternity Unit who all spent time to get to know us as a family and signpost us to relevant support at different times. One of the organisations being Ayrshire Baby Loss.
The work that this team of volunteers do for fellow bereaved parents is unmatched and I'm grateful for the time they have given us so far.
Any little amount will help further their work for parents and families facing this terrible journey so please donate if you can.
Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read our story.
To anyone who has experienced a loss like this, or is feeling the weight of their loss at this time of year; I see you and send love to you. ❤️
I will be walking in memory of Alexander William Brittain ~ 17.11.2025.
