In 2026, members of the congregation of St. Mary's Church in Baldock will be walking the 195 mile-long Hertfordshire Way to raise money to renovate the church hall.
The Hertfordshire Way is a marked footpath that forms a circular route around Hertfordshire. The team will walk the all terrain route across the year, braving all weather conditions, in legs of 10-15 miles each.
The church hall is a vital community resource for the town of Baldock which regularly hosts everything from a foodbank to birthday parties, ballet classes and many other community activities. The hall also generates crucial income to maintain the running of Baldock's magnificent St. Mary's church, which is over 900 years old. In July 2024, the church hall was severely vandalised, with almost every window, and the door, smashed. This walk will raise money for internal and external improvements that will make the hall safer, more multi-purpose, more accessible and more environmentally friendly.
