For some unbeknown reason – presumably in a fit of madness after officially entering my ‘late’ 20s earlier this month – I have signed up to do a 160ft bungee jump *this Saturday* over Salford Quays.
To put this temporary lapse in judgement to good use, I am raising funds for the Greater Manchester Asbestos Victim Support Group (GMAVSG).
GMAVSG is one of the many support groups across the country delivering vital support to victims of asbestos disease and their families.
The location of the bungee jump at Salford Quays made GMAVSG an obvious choice of charity.
Before it was home to MediaCity and the Lowry, Salford Quays was the site of the former Manchester Docks.
Historically, the docks played a significant role in importing asbestos and distributing it throughout Greater Manchester and the rest of the country. The docks’ operation played a pivotal role in the asbestos exposure of many victims.
It therefore seemed right raise money for a charity that supports local asbestos victims on the very same site that contributed to the exposure of so many.
If you would like to help me in supporting such an important cause then, on behalf of myself and GMAVSG, any donation that you are able to give is immensely appreciated.
… oh, and just in case the promise of me jumping 160ft off a crane wasn’t enough to tempt you to donate, I’ll be jumping twice – forwards first, then backwards (double the bungee for double the donations??)
If you would like to read a bit more about the ongoing asbestos problem in the UK, and the dedicated work that GMAVSG does to combat it, then I have set out some more information in the 'updates' section below.
Alternatively, if I have already convinced you that GMAVSG is a worthy cause then please donate and share this page <3
