Summer Day is back!!
On Saturday August 10th the Matterdale Community Association is bringing you another day of fun, sports, competitions, music, food, animals, tractors, stalls and some exciting new attractions. Bring your friends and family to a brilliantly curated day with activities for all!
With the Matterdale Summer Day taking place on the penultimate day of a top sport event happening in France, rather topically we have our very own Paris(h) Olympics taking place right here in our lovely valley. See what we did there? With Matterdale style traditional sports competitions such as potato and spoon race, egg throwing, three legged race and many more. Come down to win your gold medals and stand atop the podium for your photo finish.
In addition to the old favourites including the lighthearted dog show, this year we are adding dog agility for our furry friends. So also bring your dog along to have a go at jumps, tunnels and hurdles. There will be some interesting animals on show including fell ponies, sheep and pigs - all with accompanying talks so you can learn about their history and living habits.
For the more artistic of you, you will be able to get involved in kite making and 3D felt art plus watch demonstrations of wool spinning. In addition to these local crafts delicious produce available from local makers will be on sale - honey, meats, jams and the local gardening group will be sharing their knowledge and plants. Local groups such as SITU, Friends of the Ullswater Way, Another Way, Penrith & District Red Squirrel Group and Matterdale's Habitat Survey will be on hand to update you with their latest projects and plans. Stalls include Tombola, Hook-a-Duck, a cake stall and the amazingly popular Wishing Tree - we have some incredible donations from local businesses including Askham Hall, Lowther Castle, The Quiet Site, Cumbria Life, The Wild Strawberry, Emma's Dell, Catsycam, Ullswater Paddle Boards, Inn on the Lake, Theatre by the Lake.
Our music repertoire has extended somewhat and this year we will have three, yes three, different bands including Peter Crofts and his Bald Mountain String Band who will be first on to get you warmed up with some Ceilidh moves. The Morland Ukelele Group is bringing 20 of its Ukelelists with tunes to sing along to, and at the end of the day The Coats featuring Alex Wilkinson will be playing electric covers to get you dancing.
The bar, of course there's a bar, is being operated by The Royal Hotel, Dockray and food is coming to you from Fells and Dales Catering.
