Story

Hi, I'm Ali Khan, an apprentice engineer at Rolls-Royce and I'm raising £1000 to open the Brig Gul Man (BGM) Boys' School in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. In May 2022, I will be trekking from Minapin to the Rakaposhi Base Camp and weather-permitting will be ascending the glacier to Kacheli Lake at 3950m elevation. I hope to have an impact on the children in this rural area with your kind donations.

The Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar, had no school facilities until 1947, putting the locals at a severe disadvantage, the impact of which is still felt to this day. Through mountainous treks and other initiatives by the Abaseen Foundation, Mian Gul Model (MGM) Girl's School opened in April 2011. This school is now established, teaching over 300 girls from the ages of 12 to 16. In 2019, students participated for the first time in the GCSE equivalent exams and achieved 10 A's and 6 Bs.

The BGM School, commenced construction in 2018 and is partially complete. The intake is 188 students in 7 classes, increasing to 450 once the construction is finished. Funding for building the school has come from three challenge treks in Pakistan in 2017, 2018, and the upcoming 2022, which have raised over £250,000 so far.

I will be visiting the school after the trek, meeting the teachers, students and alumni of the schools. The students and teachers have nominated two staff members to accompany us on the trek

Thank you for taking the time to read this pledge and feel free to donate any amount you are comfortable with.

Abaseen Foundation

The Abaseen Foundation (AF) is an award winning charitable body dedicated to improving the lives of those who live in one of the poorest and most deprived areas of Pakistan. It has been established for over 20 years, working primarily in the fields of health, education, research and relief. In its early years AF only worked with government and donor schemes, but of late it has developed its own institutions, driven by the communities it serves, and now owns properties which house schools and health centres.
